DEWALT 20V MAX Hammer Drill and Impact Driver(DCK299P2)

Heavy duty no doubt! I wasn’t sure what the difference was between a drill and a hammer drill and I’m too curious for my own good so I bought this setup and I like it. So far I haven’t needed the hammer part of it yet but I’m sure it will work excellent. I have a decent DeWalt arsenal of tool and they never eat me down.

these meet our expectations using them daily in a Public Works Department they see a lot of use and in unfavorable conditions water, mud, heat, cold, etc. Tools function great and are a great asset for us in our field.

I switched to DeWALT 20v MAX XR tools earlier this year and a driver/drill combo set was the last pair of tools I needed to complete my new kit. DeWALT has a reputation as being very tough and long-lasting, and these two are just as good as the rest of my kit.

PROS
- Solid
- 4A/H batteries will last a long time between charges - even in high-draw tools like a week-whacker
- Interchangeable batteries between a huge array of tools
- 3 Bright LEDs on driver that stay on for 30 seconds or more after turning off the tool, allowing me to hit the button briefly to light up the work area, then find the screw, then use the tool. Three LEDs right at the collet mean there really are no shadows from my hand.
- Though there is only 1 LED on the drill, it is at an angle that allows me to find the hole marking easily. The drill also has three brightness settings. Don't look at the LED - it will drill a hole through your eye by itself.
- Plenty of power to drive large, long screws into hard wood
- Bag will be nice to carry the tools, and it's big enough I can get several in
- Comes with a handle for heavy drilling tasks such as getting through concrete
- Hammer function on drill makes it easy to get through masonry
- Three variable RPM settings on the drill allow for different material hardness at the correct speed
- Both tools are well balanced and comfortable to use.
- The driver's quick-attach/quick-release feature for bits is really nice.

CONS
- Drill has only 11 torque settings. My old brand had 20 and the greater precision was nice.
- Does not come with the quick-charge battery charger, only the standard one. When your battery is exhausted it's not cool to have to wait 4 hours for your batteries to charge. At the price DeWALT charges for this kit, even on sale, they should be able to provide the fast charger.

BE AWARE OF
- The driver's "Screw" feature (left setting) took some getting used to. It kept stopping on me until I figured it out.
- The batteries can be difficult to release the first few times. Once I got the hang of it though, it is fine.

It's fantastic that now I'm down to a single tools battery type where before I had three. If I make the decision to replace my existing 56v lawn mower with the DeWALT one, I will then eliminate that too and truly have a single interchangeable battery system for all of my battery-powered lawn and woodworking/maintenance tools.

RECOMMENDED
- I also got a set of tool holders and mounted them under a shelf - the type that fit like a battery. With this, I no longer have my tools lying all over my work bench. I also built a cabinet for all my batteries and one charger and now that is better organized too. A neat and organized shop makes for better work.

Been using this for "just" over a year now, works well. Extremely powerful for a cordless tool. Awesome Battery life. My only complain is that, while using the drill, the screws that held the handle together cut and fell out.

I messed around with a few cheaper multi tool plus battery packs. The batteries are always crap and not always a great choice of tools to use with the same battery. After a LOT of research I came to the conclusion there are a LOT of 20vMax stuff out there and will be there for a long time. They are all solid units. I also got the brushless weed whip. Love it.

Love the power and battery life. But, these are definitely more tool than a wanna-be DIY-er (like myself) might need. Specifically, the chuck on the drill can be very difficult to release. I about lost all the skin on my hand when I put the drill in reverse and grabbed to chuck to release a drill bit. Now, I use a tough glove when releasing bits. Great tools, as usual, from dewalt. I may have bought more tool than I really needed, but wanted the hammer drill.

THE BAG IN PHOTO SHOWN LOOKS LIKE A LARGER BAG , MOST GUYS LIKE TO PUT A FEW ITEMS IN THE TOOL BAG ALONG WITH THE DRILL , I DIDNT LIKE THE MINI-ME MADE IN THE USA BAG AT ALL NO ROOM!!! MAKES ME WONDER IF DEWALT CUT CORNERS ON PRODUCT QUALITY , I ALMOST WENT WITH MILWAUKEE FOR A LITTLE MORE . HOPE I DON'T REGRET THIS PUCHASE???

I've only had them for a week and only used them on one small house project, but I'm happy with some things and not so happy about one.

The Happy:
Power - both the drill and the impact have much more power than my 15 year old predecessors
Battery life/power - The lithium batteries seem to run forever - 4 AH and I haven't been able to find the end
Light - nice to have a light, but this model has the one down by the base, wish it have them around the chuck
Speed options - The 3 speeds combined with the variable trigger really give you control
The hammer feature on the drill - Something I find I need only once a year, but it's nice to have it onboard
Several other features - the push to insert on the impact is nice, the batter "bar" indicator, the fact it came with two 4AH batteries, even the carrying bag, all are nice touches and have noteworthy value

The Unhappy:
Really only one - the weight. These are top heavy even with the 4AH battery on the bottom. I had no idea they would be that way. I presumed with the brushless motor they would be super light.

Conclusion for now:
I got these at a reduced price and feel I got a really good deal. They are well made, as mentioned have a lot of power and useful features. I suspect they will last the rest of my life - TBD of course - LOL! I do recommend them especially if you can find a deal.

was very happy when placed the order. Waited too long for it to arrive at Saudi Arabia as the world get too slow due to precautions from covid19. when searching for a machine, I always avoid ordering any corded machine from the states though their prices are very attractive due to the differences in voltage as we have the 240 VAC. Moreover, was afraid that it will not be air shipped because of batteries. after all of this, it arrived and was very happy to start using it!!! discovered the charger is 120VAC????. That is unexpected as the chargers should be universal same as mobile phones?? no any mention of that in any write up about the machine..
Now it is still boxed and became useless. I like the Black and Yellow brand and it has a lot popularity in Saudi but have no dealer/Agent????
That is a very sad experience and left with no option!!

I am getting a bit worried of the quality DeWalt is putting out with their top of the line 996 hammer drill.

The drill does work fine and has tons of power. However there are times when I feel some sort of grinding or skipping in the gears and to me it seems like dewalt quality is slipping and that is disappointing.

It would have been 5 stars for sure if not for this defect.

Would be 5 stars, the impact driver works mint but the drill's forward / reverse switch didnt really hold. Put the drill down in F, pick it up to use again and it's in R. Sent back to my local dewalt dealer, they replaced the switch but it was the same. So they mailed it back to dewalt. 3 weeks later it came back to me in the mail. The switch now stays put, though it's not half the positive feel of the switch on my other dewalt tools.

These seem to be pretty good drills. I really like the torque limiting on them, it seems to be electronic, and it works great. It's especially handy on the impact driver for when you're switching fastener types on the fly and don't want to carry two tools. They're a lot lighter than the old NiCd or NiMh ones, which is good. I hope the batteries last.

Hi , I tried to charge my batteries in France , however a smoke started coming from the charger , and not working any more , I guess this is because it's designed to work with 110 V , can you advise if you have the same batteries charger that can work in European countires , or any recommended power converter from 220V to 110 V

I was very pleased with my choice of this drill set, which I researched extensively before ordering it.
DEWALT DCK299P2 20V MAX XR Lithium Ion has already been used a couple of times and those who used it were very satisfied. I expect that this drill set will be helping everybody in the family, as we'll keep it on loan for any relative who wants to borrow it...

For price point im going to be extremely picky. This is the set you want. Pure power and long battery life with hard case. The impact drives 6 inch coarse wood screws faster than ridgid drove a 3. I ran these ruthlessly for 2 days building a work bench and bench seat. I could not run down the batteries to zero. 3 inch screws all day. Easily 300 1/2 inch drill bit pocket screw pilot holes and 300 screws.

Negatives.
Should come with belt clips and bit holders. $300 set come on dewalt. Both chucks. Impact every so often sticks and bit is slightly a pain to get out. Drill driver is sensitive to neutral lock and hand tightening chuck to bit as per instructions. Can overtighten easily and turn gears. (Its just different) Battery mount is a little loose and should be a better fitment. impact 3 speed select. Speed one is just to low in my opinion on the torque not so much speed. But to each his own. 3 speed will torque a pan head kreg hd screw clean through a pressure treated 2x4! Great job dewalt!

I buy DeWalt products regularly, but frankly have seen one too many fail prematurely. Of the eight DeWalt devices I have purchased, I have had significant issues with three. The batteries are way overpriced. So, why do I buy them? Because I share batteries and have sort of locked myself into this line.
